- Era enorme! Sbucato dal nulla!
- Ma cosa?
- Quella preda! Quella che fa così…
- Ma quale?

Succede così, si genera un’immagine mentale e, che sia un ricordo o la propria fantasia, si vorrebbe trasferire agli altri quella stessa visione.
La tecnica è recente, ma la necessità è antica.
Pittura rupestre, arte antica, ombre cinesi, lanterna magica, camera obscura, realismo pittorico, fotografia, cinema: l’evoluzione ha portato “l’arte nell’era della riproducibilità tecnica” (Walter Benjiamin), ovvero nella possibilità di generare una matrice (negativo, fisico o digitale che sia), stampabile infinite volte.
Fotografia: perché scattare oggi?
Selfies, caffè e libro, avocado toast: fotocamere potenti sugli smartphone hanno trasformato chiunque in un fotoamatore, o fotoamateur, come diceva un mio professore di fotografia con tanto di gesto di roteare il calice di vino per darsi un tono. Ma questa è un’altra storia…
In contrapposizione, nell’immaginario globale, il fotografo reporter o artista che “coglie l’attimo”. Il mitologico istante da catturare, prima che scappi!
Ma è davvero così? Forse, dipende da cosa si intende con “istante”.
La superficie fotosensibile, che sia pellicola o sensore, è il punto di incontro fra la sensibilità del fotografo e il mondo esterno. Quel singolo scatto contiene entrambi, porzioni di entrambi. Quanto infilarci e con quali caratteristiche è ciò che definisce il concetto di istante catturato.
Potrebbe essere davvero un colpo di fortuna, il fortuito incontro del soggetto perfetto, con la perfetta luce e il perfetto settaggio della macchina fotografica che si trasforma in uno scatto memorabile, pregno di un messaggio grandioso e universale.
Potrebbe.
Oppure, semplicemente, l’attimo incorniciato per sempre è si unico e irripetibile, catturarlo, invece, significa studio, pensiero, lavoro e costruzione.
In entrambi i casi, è fotografia. Nessuna delle due condizioni determina qualità e riuscita del risultato.
Fotografia: quindi come funziona?
Voglio dire qualcosa e voglio dirlo con una foto. La mia immagine mentale prende vita mentre la esploro e decido cosa inserire nella mia composizione, quale luce, quale mood dovrà avere, quale attrezzatura si presta maggiormente al mio risultato, se un grandangolo o un teleobiettivo.
Le variabili sono tante e non esistono risposte giuste o sbagliate, esiste un messaggio ed esistono strumenti per costruirlo. La personalità e lo stile del fotografo faranno la differenza nelle scelte e nel risultato.
Prese tutte le decisioni, posso metterle in pratica.

L’istante è stato catturato, impresso.
La strada per raggiungerlo può durare una frazione di secondo o anni.
La tecnica fotografica va da un punto A ad un punto B di nozioni di ottica, fisica, chimica, composizione.
Il mondo e gli occhi che lo osservano sono infiniti.
