Lucca Comics & Games, la più grande manifestazione dedicata a fumetti e videogiochi in Italia, per tentare di combattere la crisi causata dalla pandemia potrebbe in futuro decidere di percorrere una strada ancora più digitale
Finalmente ci siamo: dopo due anni di attesa è tornato l’evento che tanti stavano aspettando con impazienza. Il Lucca Comics & Games, la più grande kermesse italiana dedicata a fumetti, giochi e fantasy ha finalmente riaperto i battenti ed è pronto ad accogliere al suo interno tutti coloro che fiduciosamente attendevano il suo ritorno… o almeno questa sarebbe l’intenzione.
Il problema è che non si tratterà di un Lucca Comics come tutti gli altri: tra ingressi molto limitati e un numero di eventi ridotto questa edizione si prospetta meno appetibile delle precedenti, soprattutto per quanto riguarda le casse stesse del Comics. Con sulle spalle un anno a vuoto, meno biglietti venduti per questo 2021 e una minore affluenza di standisti, viene da chiedersi quanto il Lucca Comics potrà ancora andare avanti così. Forse quello che serve per mantenere viva la fiera è una rivoluzione digitale?
Lucca Comics: cronache del 2020
La manifestazione toscana aveva già dovuto fare i conti con la pandemia nel 2020, proprio nel periodo in cui la curva dei contagi stava tornando a crescere. Al tempo, per tentare di arginare la situazione, il governo aveva inasprito le misure restrittive rendendo dunque di fatto impossibile organizzare qualsiasi tipo di evento dal vivo. Per la prima volta da anni il Lucca Comics dovette chiudere, lasciando tutti i suoi affezionati frequentatori abituali e speranzosi appassionati con l’amaro in bocca.
Per tentare di ovviare al problema il comitato organizzativo decise di tentare una mossa del tutto nuova: rendere il Lucca Comics fruibile senza bisogno di recarsi in loco. Nacque così Lucca Changes, versione digitale della fiera del 2020 basata su eventi in streaming trasmessi anche su Rai Play, a cui venne subito affiancato il progetto Campfire, iniziativa che prevedeva lo svolgersi in alcuni negozi specializzati di un palinsesto di eventi curato in collaborazione con Lucca Comics unito alla possibilità di acquistare alcuni prodotti esclusivi.
Entrambe le iniziative riscossero un buon successo, ma si trattò di briciole al confronto degli incassi delle scorse edizioni e molto meno del necessario per mantenere in attivo un organismo complesso come il Comics. Mettere su un evento del genere richiede un enorme dispendio di lavoro e risorse, tali che una singola edizione mancata può pesare enormemente sulle casse della successiva tanto da affossarla.
In questo 2021 per fortuna, con la regressione del COVID-19, gli organizzatori hanno potuto di nuovo aprire le porte della città… almeno in parte. Per venire incontro alle disposizioni ministeriali sono infatti stati necessari alcuni accorgimenti: un numero molto limitato di biglietti disponibili per giorno (parliamo di 20.000 contro i 40.000-50.000 giornalieri del pre-COVID) e un controllo costante per evitare affollamenti di qualsiasi genere. Un’edizione ridotta dunque, che pur rappresentando un miglioramento rispetto allo scorso anno rimane comunque ben al di sotto degli anni precedenti alla pandemia.
Dopo un anno come quello passato l’organizzazione avrebbe avuto davvero bisogno di ripartire al massimo della capacità e non è detto inoltre che questi limiti non siano destinati a rimanere in vigore ancora per un paio di edizioni. Appare quindi chiaro che, a fronte di un simile calo di entrate sia necessario trovare una nuova strada… o meglio, affinarne una già percorsa: affiancare tutti gli anni alla kermesse dal vivo una fiera digitale con tanto di biglietto.
Fiere in streaming
Potrebbe sembrare assurdo parlare di fiere in streaming ma in realtà la cosa è già stata fatta anche su larga scala. La Blizzard, compagnia di videogiochi americana tra le più famose al mondo, è solita tenere una convention annuale in cui annuncia i suoi nuovi progetti e che ospita decine di migliaia di spettatori paganti. Apparentemente nulla di particolare insomma rispetto ad altre fiere simili, se non fosse per un particolare: oltre ai classici ticket per la manifestazione dal vivo è possibile acquistare biglietti per la convention virtuale.
La società, ben sapendo che non tutti i suoi fan sono in grado di recarsi fisicamente al BlizzCon, ha studiato un sistema per far sì che chiunque potesse “partecipare” all’evento comodamente da casa. Oltre alla classica rassegna in loco viene organizzato uno streaming speciale riservato ai soli possessori del biglietto, i quali possono godersi in diretta gli annunci e assistere a particolari dietro le quinte, a cui poi si aggiungono diversi contenuti di gioco esclusivi sbloccabili nei vari titoli Blizzard. Nel 2020, con la cancellazione dell’evento e la conseguente edizione esclusivamente digitale del 2021 resa gratuita per non scontentare i fan, la cosa non è stata proseguita ma ciò non toglie che l’idea di fondo potrebbe avere un suo senso.
Lo stesso Lucca Comics, con l’edizione Lucca Changes, ha dimostrato di essere in grado di proporre un evento digital di un certo spessore, nonostante il poco tempo a disposizione e risorse decisamente più limitate rispetto alla multinazionale americana. Lo streaming quindi potrebbe essere una soluzione plausibile al problemi di incassi derivati dalle affluenze contingentate: certo, bisognerebbe trovare qualcosa da “dare” come valore aggiunto per giustificare l’acquisto di uno spettacolo puramente virtuale, ma in quel senso qualcosa come una borsa contenente tutta una serie di gadget ufficiali del Comics simile a quella distribuita con l’iniziativa Lucca Campfire potrebbe andare.
Questo significherebbe la fine per il Comics così come lo conosciamo? Assolutamente no: niente vieterebbe infatti di poter semplicemente affiancare al classico evento in loco una nuova versione digitale. Il Lucca Comics è tale anche in quanto occasione di ritrovo e condivisione di una passione, non certo per la semplice ricorrenza: la digital version sarebbe solo un’alternativa per permettere a chi è stato costretto a rimanere a casa di godere della fiera in maniera diversa. Certo è che in qualche modo l’organizzazione sarà costretta a fare i conti prima o poi con la realtà dei fatti e, se vorrà continuare a rimanere una delle più importanti manifestazioni di settore a livello europeo, dovrà trovare una soluzione al problema.
